Key Stage 3 Programme of Study 

Year 7 

Rotation One:
Students will study Key Performance Skills needed to succeed in Drama: Voice, Physicality, Audience Awareness, Performance Planning, Mime.

Students will study Key Performance Techniques needed to succeed in Drama: Role Play, Cross Cutting, Tableaux, Hot Seating, Narration, Thought Tracking.

Rotation Two:
Students will study a short play.  Thinking about how to interpret scripts, characterisation, and technical elements required to bring a script to life. Students will be expected to perform a piece of theatre.

Exploring modern theatre styles including Verbatim Theatre and Boal’s Forum Theatre, Political Theatre and Image Theatre.

 

Year 8

Rotation One:
Students will watch a piece of Recorded Professional Theatre and as a group analyse the use of semiotics in the work.

Students will explore the issue of Cyber Bullying looking at motivation and consequences of this using Still Image, Role Play, Thought Tracking and other Drama Conventions.

Students will explore Abstract Theatre thinking about the effects on stage of coloured lighting, levels, linking scenes, ensemble movement and stepping out.

Rotation Two:
Students will study different starting points for creating and devising Drama, using Images, song lyrics, poetry and news articles.

Students will study the issue of Joy Riding, using it as a starting point to create an extended piece of theatre, to be performed for an audience.  The use of the medium of Sound to communicate meaning.
