When year 7 came to Unity College in September, they were placed into mostly mixed ability groupings apart from the group 1 in both half years and group 5 in the X half and group 6 in the Y half. The data we used for grouping students came from your child’s primary school. Students in year 7 are kept in their small bubbles for the majority of their lessons including lunch times due to COVID-19 restrictions. This means that we have been able to keep the number of children in year 7 who we have had to send home to self-isolate to a minimum.
All students in year 7 have now taken their CAT tests (cognitive ability tests), therefore we now have consistent data available for all students in the year group. However, due to the current situation regarding the pandemic, we do not want to change the groupings at this point. As a result, we may move a small number of children into different groups but this will be kept to a minimum as children have settled very well in their groups and are making good progress with their learning. If you have any concerns do not hesitate to contact Miss Gerrard, Deputy Headteacher.
