Curriculum Intent

We exist to give children every possible life chance through musical experiences.

At Unity College, we believe that every young person has the potential to achieve great things in music. Our music curriculum is designed to be broad, rich and challenging, whilst providing students with a solid foundation in music theory, performance skills and composition. We aim to facilitate a love of learning and an appreciation for music in all its forms.

Unity College’s music community is characterised by an ethos of inclusivity, tolerance, and respect. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in music regardless of their background, ability or experience. Our music curriculum is designed to be accessible for all students and to promote diversity and inclusion.

Our music curriculum has the following goals:

  1. To provide students with a solid foundation in music theory, performance skills and composition
  2. To foster a love of learning and an appreciation for music in all its forms
  3. To encourage students to participate in music beyond the classroom
  4. To promote diversity and inclusivity in music

We believe that music is an important part of college life and that, in addition to the classroom curriculum, students should be involved in every aspect of music beyond the classroom with our enhanced curriculum. This includes participating in school concerts, joining music clubs, and collaborating with other students and staff members to create music for special events.
