We often receive comments from parents / prospective parents at Open Evenings and Parents Evenings. Here are some of the comments we have received.
“As a parent of a new year 7 pupil at Unity I wanted to write and say a big thank you for the outstanding work of yourself and your staff to assist his transition from Primary to Secondary.
A huge help in the transition was the week he spent at Whitehough and in Unity College before officially starting. In my opinion this is a fabulous ice breaker and one which he thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from. After the week he said “I don’t feel scared anymore because I know lots of people and where everything is, everyone is really nice”.
A second huge help is Treasure Island. My son spends a lot of time in here and describes the lady who works there as “really nice”. It is fantastic that it opens early in the morning as he has found if he goes into school that little bit earlier he can avoid the crowds, which he still finds intimidating. He also enjoys eating his lunch here, again as it is less crowded. Overall he sees it as a friendly refuge and spends a great deal of time there.
My son also participates in rugby and football after school and I find it great that I am given a mobile telephone number for the relevant teacher-it has proved beneficial on a number of occasions.
I recently attended The Unity College open night as my younger son will enter secondary education shortly. Once again I was blown away. A very welcoming, professional, educationally committed, caring and friendly atmosphere was evident throughout the whole college.Secondary schools have such huge numbers of children and yet I feel that my son is just as well cared for and individually recognised as he was in the much smaller primary school setting.
Whilst there will always be concerns and worries for parents and children in the transition to secondary school I just wanted to say I truly cannot speak highly enough of the staff I have met at Unity and the amazing job Unity does in addressing and alleviating so many of these and so THANKYOU, I am so very grateful for all the great work that goes on at Unity College.”
“I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say that I really enjoyed the Open Evening last night.I attended with my niece who is thinking about applying to Unity. She left the event really excited about your school and said that she can’t wait to come!
From a guardian’s point of view I found all your staff to be well driven, extremely enthusiastic and informative. They took time to speak and interact with the young person. They made a point of getting young people involved in activities. We loved the Treasure Island and the idea of this being a safe zone for Year 7’s. My niece is interested in art and we were blown away by the quality of work that your students had produced. The student guides were also very good and nothing was too much trouble for them.”
My son has only just started Year 9 here a few weeks ago. In the brief times I have here I have been really impressed by the relationship between staff and students.
The students were all extremely helpful and mature. They are all a credit to the school. Very impressed with the whole college and its atmosphere.
Our other son is in year 7 at Unity and we are so impressed with the way Unity has welcomed him and helped him settle in. The week at Whitehough is a fantastic idea to help the transition – he loved it and felt much happier coming to school after it.
