Values and Ethos

Our vision is based around three simple words:

 UNITY

Uniting the Community – United in Learning

PASSION

Passion for Life – Passion for Excellence

RESPECT

Respect for Yourself – Respect for Others

Unity College is on a journey of transformational change.

By 2019 Unity College will be judged as outstanding by all stakeholders and Ofsted.

By 2019 Unity College will exceed national standards for achievement and attendance and give the young people of Burnley the life chances they so thoroughly deserve.  Our college will be the college of choice in Burnley and we will be oversubscribed on first preferences.

The college curriculum will provide our learners with unique opportunities that challenge, motivate, inspire and empower them and secure their future economic well-being.

We will produce a generation of well qualified, responsible adults who are ready to take their place in society with the knowledge, skills and understanding to become life-long learners prepared for life in the 21st Century.

Our focus on academic achievement and the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of our learners will mean that we offer an unrivalled quality of provision and provide excellent value for money.

We will continually and rigorously evaluate ourselves with openness, honesty and trust; balancing the desire to highlight any barriers to learning facing the college with the need to challenge and seek the highest standards and levels of progress possible.

The college will respond pro-actively to the changing needs of its community and we will monitor, review and evaluate all sections of this improvement plan on a monthly basis to ensure sustainable improvement.

The College has four clear priorities to achieve this vision:

Attainment and Progress – Accelerate the rate of all students’ progress and continue to improve outcomes so that standards continue to improve in line with aspirational targets for all.  Outcomes, for all students at Unity College will rise to exceed national averages across all subjects.

Quality of Teaching – At Unity College we place the quality of Teaching and Learning at the heart of our business.  We are committed to making education an enjoyable, rewarding and stimulating experience, developing an ethos where students have a passion for learning.  Unity College students and staff have high expectations of themselves and the confidence to achieve their goals.

Literacy and Oracy – As a learning community we believe that improving the quality of literacy and oracy is the key to genuine and sustainable improvement for individuals and our school.   We want our students to read well and develop a love of reading, present their work to a high standard and express themselves confidently and fluently preparing them for adult life and the world of work.

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement – Using rich data all stakeholders – students, teachers, parents, governors – operate within rigorous and robust quality assurance activities of self-evaluation which lead to demonstrable accountability and improvements.
