In June twelve Unity College students travelled to Nelson & Colne College to compete and participate in the Boat Race Challenge ‘Selection Day’. Set up by Nelson & Colne College, the Boat Race Challenge is a programme designed to challenge and develop students to progress onto top universities.
Working alongside four other secondary schools, the ‘Selection Day’ consisted of a variety of challenges. These included team building, leadership and problem solving exercises. Each student had prepared a presentation in which they performed to a panel of three judges, outlining why they would like to participate and what skills they would bring to the programme.
The six successful students will take part in the three year programme that will include an activity each term, with opportunities to compete against the other schools involved in the programme. Everyone that participated thoroughly enjoyed the day and this opportunity encouraged them to think about their future earlier.
