UNITY GIRLS’ TOUCH RUGBY SUCCESS

Following several months of contact rugby matches, Unity College’s Under 13 Girls’ rugby team took part in an O2 touch rugby competition as part of the Lancashire School Games. The team faced other schools from Burnley, Pendle, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley for district places at the county finals.

Both of Unity’s teams demonstrated excellent ability, passion and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon- with the year 8 team progressing to the semi finals and the year 7 team narrowly missing out. In the semi finals, Unity battled hard against a well organised team from Clitheroe Royal Grammar school and were unfortunate to concede an extra time try to just miss out on a place in the final.

In an all-Burnley third place play-off, Unity demonstrated their ability and came out as winners, ensuring their place in Blackpool in July. The uptake of girls’ rugby at the school has thrived in recent months, with the school looking to build on this with the support of Burnley Rugby Club.
