Duke of Edinburgh Fundraiser

Aimee Shearer, a student at Unity College, and granddaughter of former Mayor, Councillor Frank Cant, is using her fundraising experience as part of her work towards a Duke of Edinburgh bronze award. “It’s a good way to meet different people,” said Aimee. “There’s no reason why young people can’t get involved in fundraising and help others.” Aimee has been fundraising for a number of years but this is the first time she has been allowed on the committee. Restart a Heart

Over the last week all students in year 7, and many staff, were involved in Restart a Heart training run by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). Volunteers from NWAS, Lancashire Fire Service, Lancashire Constabulary and Royal Blackburn Emergency Department worked with students to train them in life saving skills including CPR, using an AED and the recovery position. Students thoroughly enjoyed their sessions and felt they had gained some important life skills.

Unity College Sporting Success 2017

Year 7 girls netball team, participated in the Burnley High Schools Tournament competing against Shuttleworth, Hameldon, Burnley High School, Sir John Thursby and Blessed Trinity. Both teams did exceptionally well, group 1, took first place, and group 2 took seconds place. A great start to the netball fixtures ladies. Unity College netball teams from year 7 & 8 took part in a large netball tournament held at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form. This was a successful afternoon where over 100 students from across Yorkshire, Pendle, Burnley and Blackburn participated in the event. U13’s girls Football team competed in the Premier League

Football Winners!

Girls u12 Football team played Ormskirk School last Friday, winning 2-1. Megan Rodriguez secured 2 goals overall, one in the first half and another in the second half of the game. The girls U12 will now go through to the second round of the Lancashire Cup. The teams Goalkeeper, Isobel Halton obtained the player of the match. A fantastic result ladies! Dancing Partners

Olivia Hickey and Jodie-Leigh Weller gave up a Sunday afternoon to spend entertaining the elderly people at Dove Court Nursing Home. Both girls are classical sequence dance partners and wowed everyone with their performance. They also spent time talking and dancing with the elderly people and staff at the nursing home. Everyone had a lovely afternoon, well done girls!
