Young Enterprise

A huge congratulations to our year 9 students who excelled at the Young Enterprise Lancashire County Competition with their business venture ‘From The Heart’. They were the youngest winning team out of the 25 teams which took part. The competition involved the team submitting a Business Report summarising their journey so far, attending an online Team Interview in front of a tough panel, and presenting to an audience of judges and fellow competitors at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston. We are immensely proud of their achievement of ‘Best Customer Service’ – well done!

Girls Football

Well done Frankie Congratulations to Frankie-Leigh Forrest who has been appointed as the Barclays Girls Football Game Changer.  She will work across Burnley and Pendle to help bring about change and provide girls with equal access in not just football but all sports. Frankie is one of just 300 Game Changers working across the country.  Frankie will also lead and chair the Burnley and Pendle Girls Football Youth Steering Group. Frankie plays football for Unity College and out of school she plays for Great Harwood.  She is an outstanding sports person playing a wide range of sports including rugby, athletics

Y7 Football Team Success (and again)

The year 7 Football team played Holy Family Catholic High School from Liverpool on Thursday 13th January. This fixture was in the last 32 of the English school’s cup, nearly 800 teams originally entered.  The game was so tense, few goal scoring opportunities arose for both teams. Holy Family nearly stole the victory but thanks to a sliding challenge from Joe Hodgkinson to prevent the ball crossing the goal line, meant the game went to extra time. Unity had the best chance of the game when Morgan Shapland went clean through on goal with 2 minutes of extra time remaining

Y7 Football Team Success (again)

Well done to the Year 7 football team who have reached round 6 of the English Schools Cup for the first time in their history. Unity put themselves under pressure after 10 minutes, conceding a sloppy goal. The lads fought back and deservingly equalised before half time. A strong second half from the home team led to Unity scoring a great team goal. Despite a late fight back from the away team, which included them hitting the cross bar from a free kick, Unity progress to the next round of the cup. Unity are now through to the last 32

Y7 Football Team Success

The road to Wembley continues as the Yr7 Football team beat Westhill school from Manchester in the 4th round of the English school’s cup on Tuesday at the Prairie. Westhill dominated possession but Unity had the best chances of the game striking the inside of the post, missing a great one on one chance before finally scoring a great free kick from 30yds out which nestled in the top left-hand corner of the goal. Unity survived a second half onslaught, putting bodies on the line and a great save from the Unity goalkeeper in the last minute of the game

Oracy October

Unity College students took part in a project, Oracy October, initiated by Voice 21, our Oracy partners. The objective was to encourage students to communicate more within the lesson. We shared some of our students work with Voice 21 who recognised us as one of the best schools who took part in the project.

Lancashire cup update

Congratulations to the year 7 football team who progressed to the second round of the Lancashire cup. Unity were drawn in a group with Blessed Trinity and Shuttleworth. Unity defeated Blessed Trinity 3-0 and Shuttleworth 4-0. Unity now face St Augustine’s in the next round of the competition.
