As fixtures return again after the half term break, Unity College’s year 7 boys travelled to Blackburn RUFC to face other schools from East Lancashire in a round robin tournament. Supported by Simon Finnan and Howard Metcalf from Burnley Rugby Club, the boys faced teams from St Augustines, St Wilfred’s and Blackburn Central.

The team on the day, whilst missing a few players, represented themselves and the College excellently, demonstrating teamwork, organisation and sportsmanship. Throughout the tournament Unity showcased their ability and saw them score 17 tries whilst conceding only 2. Year 10 student Adam Broxton also travelled with the squad, refereeing the team’s three games and receiving great praise from opposition teams and teachers. Adam continues to coach and referee both in school and out of school and certainly has a promising future in these roles.

The team consisted of: (Back Row) Luke Birtwell, Gabriel Metcalf, Patrick Horan, Owen Marsden, Jacob Fleming, Tom Ashworth, (Front Row) Macaulay Houghton, Harvey Elliot.
