Reading Week

Unity College is preparing for its first ever Reading Week, which will take place during the week beginning the 3rd December 2018. A sponsored Readathon will be held during this week in which all students are being encouraged to complete a sponsored read. The money raised will be donated to the ‘READ FOR GOOD’ charity which provides children in hospital with free, brand new reading books as well as funding storyteller events on children’s wards. Year 7 Rugby Tournament

The year 7 rugby boys competed in their first tournament on Thursday 15th November at Burnley Rugby club. They played a round robin format against Clitheroe Grammar, All Saints, Blessed Trinity, Sir John Thursby and Shuttleworth.    The boys were unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, winning four and drawing one, with seven different try scorers. Every player put in an outstanding performance, with key attacking praise for Thomas Ashworth and Macaulay Houghton, scoring four and three tries respectively. Solid tackling from Gabriel Metcalf, Archie McIvor and Patrick Horan saw Unity concede only 4 tries throughout the day.    The college

European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages was a great success and was enjoyed by all who took part. Students were invited to come and play a selection of traditional French games, such as ring toss and pin the beret on Mademoiselle Lord. For the price of fifty pence, students received a raffle ticket, entrance into the room and the chance to take part in our activities. A Special Remembrance Poppy 1914 – 1918

In Textiles this week, we have completed a project based on celebrating the centenary of the end of World War One. Measles Outbreak

Message for parents/carers and guardians There are currently outbreaks of measles in several areas of the UK affecting unimmunised children and young adults, including 2 recent cases in Cumbria. There are also large outbreaks in several countries across Europe, including holiday destinations. Measles is highly infectious. It can cause serious illness and can sometimes be fatal.
