The Student Librarians

The student librarians: Emily Foster and Demi Wareing, organised for Year 7 pupils to attend the library to celebrate a love of reading and to congratulate our passionate student readers that have been reading all year long. They had lots of yummy treats to eat but the real treat was that they were able to chat about what they had been reading and recommend books to each other in the calm atmosphere of our library. The student librarians intend on holding more events for all students over the next academic year…Well done librarians; keep up the good work!

Orienteering Score Event

We had 8 participants that took part in an Orienteering score event held in Towneley Park. The winners of the event would go through to represent the area in the Lancashire games. In team A we had Katie Marsden and Ellie Bennett. Team B was Emma Holt and Amelia – Rae Stewert. Team C was Luke Smith and Josh Sanders. Team D was Ryan Rea and Liam Simpson. Table Tennis Lancashire School Games Finals

  Our U13 girls team represented Burnley in the Lancashire School Games Table Tennis competition at Garstang High school on Wednesday 8th May. The team was made up of Abby Lawless, Kiera Porter, Eve Waters and Jessica Ball. In order to reach the finals the girls won their regional competition beating Blessed Trinity and Sir John Thursby.  In the final the girls competed against 9 other schools who had all won their regional competitions. Year 7 Cup Winners 2019

It was a very equal game to begin with Unity and Blessed Trinity both playing nervously until Unity manged to score half way through the first half. Archie Mcivor managed to get his head onto the ball and direct it into the net from a lovely corner. This gave Unity a lot of confidence and they started to push having numerous attempts stopped by the Blessed Keeper.  However, Blessed Trinity started to come back into the game more and a ball over the top wasn’t dealt with properly and Blessed punished Unity to make it 1-1. Year 9 Cup Winners 2019

  The Year 9 Cup Final was contested between Unity and Blessed Trinity on Thursday 2nd May at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form. Both teams know each other well as they make up the majority of the squad from the Burnley U14 town team. Both managers knew the game would be extremely tight based on previous contests between the two sides. The match was a very tense affair with both teams having a lot of possession and creating a number of goal scoring opportunities in each half. UNDER 12 BOYS’ RUGBY SUCCESS

Following the inaugural ‘Unity Sevens’ competition in 2017, the college hosted its second county-wide year 7 competition. Due to new RFU regulations, the competition was changed to touch rugby for this time of the year and gave the boys the chance to experience a new form of the game.    Following two narrow victories against Bowland B and Shuttleworth, Unity were made to work hard for draws against Blessed Trinity, Tarleton Academy and Bowland A. Following several months of contact rugby matches, Unity College’s Under 13 Girls’ rugby team took part in an O2 touch rugby competition as part of the Lancashire School Games. The team faced other schools from Burnley, Pendle, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley for district places at the county finals.    Both of Unity’s teams demonstrated excellent ability, passion and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon- with the year 8 team progressing to the semi finals and the year 7 team narrowly missing out. Vehicle Parking When Picking Your Child Up

Can all parents who collect their child by car please park your vehicles in a safe and considerate manner.  Please park on the pay and display car park and not on the college site. A local resident has also informed us that some parents are parking to the rear of Todmorden Road/ Woodgrove Road.  Access is being blocked to the rear of properties on Todmorden Road and Woodgrove Road.  Some of these properties have private parking which can only be accessed from the back street.   Thank you for your co-operation.

UNITY YEAR 9 EAST LANCASHIRE RUGBY SUCCESS

The year 9 boys travelled to Blackburn RUFC to compete in a tournament against other East Lancashire schools. The boys played games against St Augustine’s, Blackburn Central and Darwen Vale as well as a final game against a “Combined XV” from the other schools. Unity finished the day unbeaten, scoring a number of fantastic tries across the afternoon. The boys were able to demonstrate excellent kick and chase tactics, quick passing to the wings and supported drives through the middle. The team now await their rearranged Lancashire Cup finals day in the near future.
