The Under 12’s and Under 14’s boys travelled to Ilkley RUFC for the conclusion of the White Rose Rugby season. Throughout the course of the day, both teams took part in friendly but fierce competition against a number of schools from Yorkshire. After a successful season so far for both teams in Lancashire, all boys enjoyed being able to put their skills to the test against new opponents. Both teams enjoyed some success throughout the day and will look forward to attending and hosting White Rose events next year.

Burnley Schools Mixed Team Football Competition
Unity College entered two teams into the Burnley Schools Mixed Team Football Competition at Sir John Thursby. One team obtained 2nd position and the other team came 3rd. The students worked extremely hard to earn some fantastic goals. Our goalkeepers Denton Greenwood and Thomas Hargreaves made some outstanding saves, well done lads! The remaining players worked together to show some amazing teamwork in attack and defence. Under 13 Rugby Girls tournament
U13 girls Rugby team attended a tournament at Preston Grass Hoppers playing ground. The girls showed a United front, tackling many of the oppositions to the ground. The team beat local rival schools along with other oppositions from across Lancashire. Well done ladies.

Burnley Schools and Rossendale Climbing championships
Six students represented Unity College today for the Burnley Schools and Rossendale Climbing championships. This was the first competition of its kind. All six boys were a credit to the school, their parents and themselves. They represented Unity College with unity, passion and respect! They came 1st in the whole competition beating all schools in the Burnley district and all schools in Rossendale! They now go through as Burnley champions to represent Burnley in the Lancashire games which will be held in July. UNDER 13’S GIRLS CRICKET FINALS
After winning the Burnley district indoor cricket competition, the under 13 girls travelled to face the winners from other Lancashire districts. After a narrow defeat to St Wilfred’s (Blackburn), Unity’s second game against Clitheroe Royal Grammar School (Ribble Valley) saw Eve Waters and Olivia Ainsworth-McCoskery demonstrate excellent batting. Solid fielding from Poppy O’Brien and Holly Lockyer meant that Unity emerged victorious. As fixtures return again after the half term break, Unity College’s year 7 boys travelled to Blackburn RUFC to face other schools from East Lancashire in a round robin tournament. Supported by Simon Finnan and Howard Metcalf from Burnley Rugby Club, the boys faced teams from St Augustines, St Wilfred’s and Blackburn Central. The team on the day, whilst missing a few players, represented themselves and the College excellently, demonstrating teamwork, organisation and sportsmanship. It was an eventful start to the year in rugby terms at Unity College, with all year groups being represented across local and regional competitions.
