Unity College Year 7 Football Victory!

After beating Blessed Trinity on penalties and Sir John Thursby in the semi-final, 6-3 after extra time, on Monday, the Unity College team won the Presidents Shield final last night against Shuttleworth College 3-1.  With Noah McGibbon scoring all three goals. It is the first time since 1963 that the school have won the trophy in two successive seasons and as far as we are aware we have only ever won that trophy four times in total. Boxing Gold in Denmark

Sam Walsh  and Jaden Haworth-Franklin represented their boxing club, Sandygate A.B.C at the Hvidovre International Box Cup, Denmark at the weekend.  The boxing club covered all costs and expenses so the boys could attend this prestigious competition and box on an International stage.  Both boys fought hard with Sam bringing back a Gold Medal!

MFL Breakfast Morning

January saw host to the first ever Modern Foreign Languages breakfast.  Students were invited to come along and enjoy a taste of authentic French, German and Spanish cuisine.  For the price of 50p, students could choose from a range of delicacies such as German sausages, Spanish cakes and French pastries. The event was clearly a hit with students as the food and drink was promptly sold out, and students were even queueing outside the door of the languages department. Handball Champions!

The year 10 handball team competed in the Lancashire school finals at Ewood Park Indoor centre. The team won the whole tournament and were un-beaten. They will now go on to represent Lancashire in the North West handball finals.  Well done to all! RE Student Debate

On Tuesday 28 February, three Year 9 students travelled to County Hall, Preston to debate some of the key issues around the teaching of Religious Education (RE). The debate, led by the students of Broughton High School, involved eight Lancashire High Schools.   After researching and preparing speeches, Hollie Hartley, Elise Ridge and Joe Dickinson took an active part in debating the importance of RE in the modern curriculum.  Within a strict 60 second time limit they each confidently presented their ideas before taking part in an open debate, responding to the ideas presented by others.  The students were highly commended

Gymnastics High School Competition Winners

32 Gymnasts from Unity College took part in the Burnley Gymnastics High School competition, on 10th February at the Best Training Centre. For the first time in Burnley High Schools history boys have also now had the opportunity to perform. Out of a possible 27 medals, Unity took a clean sweep and brought home 15 medals ranging from Gold, Silver and Bronze for individual, paired and vaulting performances.
