Boat Race Challenge

Unity Year 11 Leavers Prom

The 2017 Unity College Prom was held at The Fence Gate, Fence for 150 students.  It was time for the girls to put on their beautiful prom dresses and the boys to get their very smart suits on for their end-of-year prom. Students posed for pictures before heading off to celebrate with a three course meal and disco. Lancashire County Athletics

Lancashire County Athletics competition was held at Stanley Park Blackpool on Saturday 12th June. From the Burnley Borough there were 6 students who represented the area. Three of these students came from Unity College. Ellysia Ainsworth-Cookson competed in the Hammer, Imogen Mansfield competed in the Long Jump event and Liberty Thompson competed in the 75m Hurdles. Despite the weather not being in the athletes favour all three girls did a fantastic job, all coming in the top 5 positions. Imogen Mansfield secured 3rd place in her event, and now awaits confirmation on when the regional finals are.

Adam Broxton and the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley

Adam Broxton was invited to attend a Care Home Open Day at Brierfield House.  He had a lovely day and spent 2.5 hours showing the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle around the home explaining about Dementia care and the types of activities that they provide.  As they had him in charge of the photography for the day he was also asked to attend an art exhibition and take some photographs for them on a weekend.

Junior Blackpool Dance Festival

Jodie-Leigh and  Ava-Grayce took the dance floor by storm at the Junior Blackpool dance festival. The girls trained very hard for this competition which runs every year starting on Easter Monday for 5 days. Jodie-Leigh and Ava-Grayce danced beautifully all week picking up 1st places everyday including being crowned British Champions on the Thursday. They also represented the north of England in the team match who also won!

Year 10 Handball Final

Last week the Year 10 Handball Team competed in the North West Handball finals. They were representing Lancashire at the Under 15 boys category. All the best teams from other NW counties were there and the standard of handball was extremely high. The boys won their group stage and then went all the way to the final were they lost by one goal. They were the only undefeated team in the whole competition until they lost in the final.  Well done team! Unity College Year 7 Football Victory!

After beating Blessed Trinity on penalties and Sir John Thursby in the semi-final, 6-3 after extra time, on Monday, the Unity College team won the Presidents Shield final last night against Shuttleworth College 3-1.  With Noah McGibbon scoring all three goals. It is the first time since 1963 that the school have won the trophy in two successive seasons and as far as we are aware we have only ever won that trophy four times in total. Boxing Gold in Denmark

Sam Walsh  and Jaden Haworth-Franklin represented their boxing club, Sandygate A.B.C at the Hvidovre International Box Cup, Denmark at the weekend.  The boxing club covered all costs and expenses so the boys could attend this prestigious competition and box on an International stage.  Both boys fought hard with Sam bringing back a Gold Medal!
