Year 7 Boys Rugby Start Strong

After only two practice sessions, the year 7 boys’ rugby team travelled to Blackburn Central High School to take on the host school and St Augustine’s in their first “RUFFS” Tournament of the year. The team started slowly against a strong St Augustine’s team but after some fantastic individual running came out as 4-2 winners. They then took on Blackburn Central, demonstrating a great ability to turn the ball over and gain possession, leading to a 4-1 win. Girls Rugby Success

Unity College’s U13 Girls’ team took part in their first tournament of the year, with 15 girls from year 7 and 8 taking part. The tournament was held on the artificial pitch at Preston Grasshopper and ensured the competition could go ahead despite the heavy rain. After a hard fought win against Blackburn Central, Unity came up against a fast St Augustine’s team and narrowly lost. On Friday 27th of September year 9 were lucky enough to be joined by 13 employers from a range of businesses in the North West. The year 9 students had the opportunity to ask questions about career routes, qualifications and the day-to-day life in a range of roles in the work place. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by students, staff and visitors alike. Chicago!

The long-running hit musical Chicago will be performed by students at Unity College on Friday 29 November and Saturday 30 November at 7pm. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday 30 November 30 at 2pm. Chicago features songs by John Kander and Fred Ebb. This landmark show has been presented on Broadway for over 6,300 performances since it opened in 1996, and won six Tony awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. The original production, directed and choreographed by the legendary Bob Fosse, opened in June of 1975 and was nominated for nine Tony awards. WW1 Visit

On the 10th September Unity College History students received a visit from Bill at WW1 Workshop. Students investigated the impact of WW1 on the development of healthcare as part of their GCSE History studies. Students were amazed at the innovations that were produced during the war which enabled soldiers to recover and carry on the fight. This proved to be an invaluable insight on how war can be a catalyst for change.

GCSE Results 2019: Best ever attainment results in the history of the college

Unity College is celebrating again today after receiving excellent GCSE results building on from their successful Ofsted report in November 2018 in which they were judged again to be a ‘good’ school. University Of Oxford Trip

For the past three years, five Unity College students have undertook a unique training programme designed by Nelson and Colne College to extend and enrich the perspectives of gifted and talented students from year 9 onwards.  The programme included Unity College students, working alongside students from other secondary schools within the area.  Students have taken part in activities such as a university challenge quiz and a set of STEM related challenges to broaden their skills for their future education, including attending one of the Russell Group Universities.  Last week, five students from Unity College enjoyed a residential trip to the

Maths In Motion

Over the last year we have been taking part in an after-school activity called Maths in Motion. We had to combine mathematics and strategy to make a virtual car that would successfully get around a race track. We battled our way through the qualifying heats to make it to the World Finals. Around the world there were 26 teams competing from as far away as Australia. During the day of the finals we measured, calculated, tested, adjusted, fuelled and argued to produce our very own top-notch car. We then waited with anticipation and doubt to see where we would come
