U13 girls Rugby team attended a tournament at Preston Grass Hoppers playing ground. The girls showed a United front, tackling many of the oppositions to the ground. The team beat local rival schools along with other oppositions from across Lancashire.  Well done ladies.

Burnley Schools and Rossendale Climbing championships

Six students represented Unity College today for the Burnley Schools and Rossendale Climbing championships.  This was the first competition of its kind. All six boys were a credit to the school, their parents and themselves. They represented Unity College with unity, passion and respect! They came 1st in the whole competition beating all schools in the Burnley district and all schools in Rossendale! They now go through as Burnley champions to represent Burnley in the Lancashire games which will be held in July.  A massive congratulations to all six boys; an amazing achievement and some unbelievable climbers. UNDER 13’S GIRLS CRICKET FINALS

After winning the Burnley district indoor cricket competition, the under 13 girls travelled to face the winners from other Lancashire districts.     After a narrow defeat to St Wilfred’s (Blackburn), Unity’s second game against Clitheroe Royal Grammar School (Ribble Valley) saw Eve Waters and Olivia Ainsworth-McCoskery demonstrate excellent batting. YEAR 7 RUGBY

As fixtures return again after the half term break, Unity College’s year 7 boys travelled to Blackburn RUFC to face other schools from East Lancashire in a round robin tournament. Supported by Simon Finnan and Howard Metcalf from Burnley Rugby Club, the boys faced teams from St Augustines, St Wilfred’s and Blackburn Central.  The team on the day, whilst missing a few players, represented themselves and the College excellently, demonstrating teamwork, organisation and sportsmanship. UNITY COLLEGE RUGBY SUCCESS

It was an eventful start to the year in rugby terms at Unity College, with all year groups being represented across local and regional competitions.    The Year 7 Boys’ team look to build on an unbeaten start to their school experience, having taken part in Burnley RUFC’s Under 12’s tournament, winning four games and drawing one. Under 16’s Rugby Semi Final

Unity’s Under 16 team traveled to St Augustine’s for their Lancashire Bowl semi-final match. In cold and wet conditions, Unity started against the wind having to defend against some fantastic St Augustine’s kicking, with full back Jonathan Sunter able to deal comfortably with all threats. This allowed Unity to demonstrate their attacking potential, with Roshane Hemmings crossing under the posts for a fantastic solo try which was converted by Adam Broxton. Josh Bailey-Tattersall then completed a driving run with an inch-perfect pass for Josh Waddington to score in the corner. U16 Rugby Lancashire Bowl Quarter Final

The U16 rugby squad travelled to QEGS for their Lancashire Bowl quarter final. Unity raced ahead into an early lead, with tries from Logan Murray, Kaie Jolly, Jaden-Haworth Franklin, Charlie Ball and Roshane Hemmings. Roshane was also able to add a conversion to take the score to 29-0.    Not to be outdone, QEGS responded with four converted tries of their own to leave the score at 29-28 in Unity’s favour. After a tense second half, late tries from Josh Waddington and Charlie Ball, along with a conversation apiece from Adam Broxton and Roshane Hemmings, saw the game finish 41-28

Year 7 Rugby Tournament

The year 7 rugby boys competed in their first tournament on Thursday 15th November at Burnley Rugby club. They played a round robin format against Clitheroe Grammar, All Saints, Blessed Trinity, Sir John Thursby and Shuttleworth.    The boys were unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, winning four and drawing one, with seven different try scorers. Every player put in an outstanding performance, with key attacking praise for Thomas Ashworth and Macaulay Houghton, scoring four and three tries respectively. Solid tackling from Gabriel Metcalf, Archie McIvor and Patrick Horan saw Unity concede only 4 tries throughout the day.    The college

Under 14’s Lancashire Cup

Under 14’s Lancashire Cup rugby game against Maricourt After early pressure from Unity, the deadlock was broken by a try from debutant winger Daniel Maymond, before adding his second after sprinting the entire length of the pitch. Unity then withstood a large amount of pressure from the away team, with both forwards and backs demonstrating fearless tackles and commitment for their team mates. Thomas Wooller was then able to touch down between the posts, allowing Ben Uttley to score the conversion. Maricourt fought back however, securing their own try just before half time. Athletics

Unity College Whitewash Unity College took all the accolades at the Burnley Schools year 7 and 8 athletics event. Unity dominated, with both teams; year 8s and year 7s winning both events. This means that both year 7 teams will progress to represent Burnley at the Lancashire School Games in Blackpool later in the term. Pupils came together to encourage each other through the field and track events and were a credit to the school both in terms of quality and attitude. The Unity College PE teachers were all extremely proud of all of their athletes.
